Mo' Music, Nawlins Style!

Okay, so I knew I shouldn't start down the line of looking up musicians who are going to be playing in New Orleans around Mardi Gras. I figured we'd see Derek Trucks and maybe head down to Preservation Hall after the Fat Tuesday dust has settled to soak up some of the ol' time New Orleans jazz.

But, I couldn't help but peek online, anyway...

...and what did I find?

The VERY NIGHT we arrive, at 5 minutes to midnight, the REBIRTH BRASS BAND are playing a FREE show at the Howlin' Wolf on South Peters. Damn! Still, it ain't in the Quarter (just) so I doubt we'll be passing by on our inevitable first-night bar crawl.

I LOVE The Rebirth. Saw them at BB's in New York. A damn good time!

That one has just got to be worth taking a little stroll outside the quarter. I've not had the pleasure of seeing Rebirth live but, I would drop what I was doing.

I know, I know... and they're a New Orleans tradition. And just last weekend I was jamming along to one of their albums for some Nawlins-style inspiration.

The problem is that it looks like we may already have Mardi Gras friends incoming so'll be doing the meetup thing. We said we were goin' and y'know, everyone else said 'hell, why not!'

Maybe I'll fake heading out grab a bite inbetween rounds and return a couple of hours later :-) It's a free show... wait a minute... I think it's just after some parades and it's free, no tickets, so...

Maybe I'll keep it in my back pocket!

The Howlin' Wolf is right at the end of the parade route for Morpheus, Krewe d'Etat aaaand... Hermes that night. Could be good for some Day 1 bead catching...

Oh... I think I've created a monster. Tim says he wants to go! First I turned him on to the Allmans, then Derek Trucks, then the Rebirth...

As long as I can get my mojo revved up after the flight I should be fine :-) I should be able to get some John the Conquer root at the airport...

Y'know I'm unfeasably fired up about our return to New Orleans after 4 years in the wilderness.

YEAH BABY!

You're showing an inordinate amount of happiness about all this, Kenski.

Hoping that the mojo holds out, whatever that means.

Mardi Gras fever's set in at our house! Finding it hard to sleep with the anticipation already, and it's over a month away!
