One must learn to use notes, phrases, accent, VOLUME and, above all, timing to create a mellifluous sound!

Just noodle. And keep noodling - but in the end some have it (Jeff Beck, Pat Metheny etc.) some don't... me :-)
Teach made a good point last week, which was that lots of people practice soloing by noodling without a backing but it's getting in with the backing that's crucial to develop timing, appropriate note selection etc.
I tend to noodle over other people's recordings, so I'm constantly competing with the main attraction!
